WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Handknits Pty Ptd is an Australia company in partnership with women who live in rural southern India.
We are now a sisterhood of artisans and a business with the United Nations’ Global Goals for Sustainable Development entwined in our DNA. We are KOCO - Knit One (garment) Change One (life).
KOCO began with ten women, sitting on the floor of a home in a village. We established a training program and quality control measures to ensure every garment was made to exacting specifications without machine intervention – no waste, no carbon footprint, empowering fashion.
We are breaking the economic and education cycles in each village we enter. The women we employ are gaining financial independence and spending money in the villages on clothing, food, upgrading their housing, and on the education of their children – sons and daughters.
Children are seeing this change modelled in their family life.
We are building a strong business of women producing artisan quality handknitted garments for the fashion industry. Moreover, we are building a business of strong women.
WE ATTRACT TALENT
KOCO works with designers and brands to create handknitted fashions and homewares. Each garment is meticulously and personally produced, from the first stitch to the last by our handknitters and comes with an engaging story.
Brands, designers and your customers can meet our ladies and see how KOCO is making an impact on whole villages by stimulating economic growth and employment.
Each handknitted item comes with a swing tag featuring the photo of our artisan who made that piece, her signature, and a QR code. By scanning the QR code with a smartphone, customers can read about the lady who handknitted that particular item. Our aim is to have the person who wears the garment feel the same joy that our knitter had in making it.
